Principal Consultant – Risk Management (Defence) 

Job brief 

This is a key position within our business; we are looking for the right individual to help build our Risk Management capability and offering across our Defence business. We will expect the successful candidate to lead and mentor our staff on various Risk Management assignments and to help develop new routes to market and actively engage in business development activities as and when required. To be part of the Defence management team and to input to the strategic direction of the business and help meet our ambitious growth targets. 

Responsibilities 

  • To lead and influence the development and delivery of Risk Management Consultancy within the business 

  • To ensure the successful delivery of client facing assignments 

  • Support work winning and oversee the assembly of high-quality tenders and/or submissions 

  • Implementation of best practice methodologies 

  • Have authority on all aspects of RAIDO Management (Risk, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies, Opportunities) 

  • Lead on governance and provide direction to ensure contractual obligations are met 

  • Identify, evaluate and drive key innovative and creative opportunities 

  • Market the organisation’s capabilities and win work with clients to support growth 

  • Maintain and develop highest standards of client relations including major client account management 

  • Maintain and report upon a Consultancy sales pipeline focused on delivery of Risk Management based consultancy offerings 

 

Requirements 

  • Experience in defining, managing and delivering complex projects/programmes/portfolios 

  • Recent experience of working within the Defence industry  

  • Programme / Portfolio office organisation 

  • Lead programme assurance reviews on projects of increasing size and complexity and in the delivery of major business and change management solutions 

  • Expertise in developing Risk Management strategies 

  • Fully conversant with continuous improvement and benchmarking methodologies 

  • Expertise in multiple planning management and control disciplines 

  • Fully conversant with risk and opportunity management including associated methodologies 

  • Implementation of benefits management, quality management, blueprint design and delivery principles 

  • Ability to work on own initiative 

  • Demonstrable effective communication, negotiation and influencing skills 

  • Ability to bid manage complex proposals and provide technical assurance of bid costings and scope, leading bid teams and opportunity pursuit teams 

  • Ability to identify key areas for the department to develop capability 

  • Experience in a sales target, account focussed, new business environment 

  • Ability to lead development of new capabilities and be accountable for sales resulting from their development 

  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary programme teams; managing performance and delivery 

  • The suitable candidate will be expected to achieve Security Clearance 

 

Desirable 

  • Circa 15yrs relevant experience 

  • Full Member of APM possibly working towards Fellowship/Chartership 

  • APMP/APMQ Practitioner 

  • PRINCE2  Practitioner 

  • Management of Risk (MoR) - Practitioner

Salary: £55,000.00 to £80,000.00 /year
