Here at i3Works, we believe in championing talent and ambition, regardless of experience. By nurturing employees early on in their careers with training, qualifications and client work we are able to create a stronger and more diverse workforce. Consultant Samuel Fuller, recently joined i3Works following three years in Project Planning, his first full-time role after leaving sixth form. Here he shares his experience of how i3Works has provided him with the opportunity to develop his career through hands-on experience, professional qualifications, and a supportive company culture.

What first attracted you to i3Works?

In August this year, I decided to make the move from Leonardo Helicopters to i3Works. Leonardo Helicopters provided me with the fundamentals of Project Planning and Scheduling, which was a vital starting point in my career, however, as I was eager to continue my development in Project Controls, i3Works stood out for me.

They have a great reputation within the industry for delivering value for their clients, along with an approachable, and honest internal company culture. Aside from investing in their employees, they are also committed to combining good business practices with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), working with a number of charities and environmental initiatives to improve the lives of individuals, local communities and the wider environment.

On a more social note, i3Works have regular team days and social events which is a great opportunity to engage with other employees face-to-face and outside of the working environment and to understand the team’s interests and hobbies.

What was your first week like?

A week prior to starting, my line manager reached out to discuss the expectations of my first week and answer any questions. This immediately settled any early nerves and worries, putting me at ease in the lead-up to my first day. In the first fortnight, I reached out to key personnel to introduce myself, and immediately felt and recognised the warm and positive environment that i3Works has. Everyone was really friendly and supportive and it reinforced the i3Works ‘family feel’.

What sort of projects have you been involved with?

During the first few months, I was involved in several internal projects, expanding my network, and developing meaningful connections. One of the key internal projects was developing a new internal website for the company. This task involved stakeholder and requirements management, designing service line pages, user-testing, and implementing amendments, to ultimately deliver the successful roll-out of the internal site. In addition to this, I was involved in developing a probation journal for new starters. Having had numerous iterations of the document, being assigned to this project helped achieve a substantial quality and subsequently received positive comments from Senior Consultants. i3Works are great at providing feedback, so to receive recognition was really encouraging and gave me confidence in my abilities as a new starter.

How do you see your future with i3Works?

i3Works really invest in their employees. They understand the importance of individual growth and provide you with the opportunity to develop both your technical and soft skills. During my first few months I was able to increase my technical knowledge within Project Controls, completing the APM Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring and Control (Practitioner) as well as Axelos Management of Risk (Foundation) qualifications. Additionally, I had the opportunity to take part in an ‘Effective Leadership’ workshop which is great for understanding the fundamentals of leadership in the consultancy industry. I look forward to applying both my technical and soft skills within my work client-side, and internally, at i3Works.

In conclusion, I can’t thank i3Works enough for my probation experience over the last three months. I am very much looking forward to the future and progressing to the next steps in my career.
